Public Philosophy

I’m enthusiastic about accessible philosophy, particularly relating to topics that have resonance with mundane life as well as dialogue with other disciplines in the humanities such as classics, art history, and literature. Most of my work in aesthetics, the philosophy of love and sex, the philosophy of imagination, and some of my work in social thought and Chinese philosophy, is intended for a public audience. I am currently writing articles on various topics including the appropriateness of loving bad people, the optimism of creative envy, loneliness and the need to be needed by others, how ritualism relates to moral character in modern day, and the metaphysical interpretation of metafiction. For an example of my stylistic approach to public philosophy, see my article titled ‘Girls who love boys who love boys: Yaoi and the illusion of patriarchy-free fantasy’ (forthcoming in Aesthetics for Birds).
